Schirmer Tear Test Strips measures tear production rates and evaluates tear deficiency in conjunctivitis cases linked to ocular surface diseases such as keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), pigmentary keratitis, indolent corneal ulcers, and exposure keratitis. It also assesses lacrimal gland functionality pre-cataract surgery.
Instructions for Use:
1. Preparation
- Position the animal’s eye away from direct light and ensure proper head restraint.
- Avoid prior use of ophthalmic medications or treatments before testing.
2. Open Packaging
- Tear open the pouch from both ends using thumbs and index fingers.
- Pull the packaging to approximately half its length.
3. Remove Strip
- Gently extract the strip by holding only the flat end.
4. Apply Strip
- Insert the rounded tip into the lower palpebral conjunctival sac while directing the animal’s gaze upward.
- Ensure secure placement to prevent slippage.
5. Maintain Position
- Instruct the animal to close the eye and hold the Schirmer Tear Test Strips in place for 1 minute[1].
6. Read Results
- After removing the strip, measure the tear migration distance using the printed scale.
Notes:
- Ensure the strip remains securely positioned during the test.
- Do not use if packaging is damaged or opened to preserve sterility.
